About the Name

It all started when a friend suggested that I highlight words in the dictionary that were unfamiliar to me. At the time, I wanted to start a graphic design company but was struggling to find a proper name. I wanted one that conveyed its’ mission, was brief, unique, easy to remember and differentiated in the marketplace.

Then I stumbled upon the word cognition. I highlighted the word and began reading the definition. It read: the act or process of knowing; including both awareness and judgment.

This definition spoke to me so clearly that I could not ignore it. It defined who I am and how I help companies by designing in this way. I thought to myself, “Maybe there is something I could do with the word ‘cognition’. What if I shorten it?”

Immediately I thought of the word ‘cognito’. I then had an “ah-ha moment”, realizing that ‘incognito’ is something hidden or unclear. I then proceeded—with highlighter in hand—to look up ‘incognito’. I then read “with one’s identity concealed” and realized that the one word summed up the essence of my new endeavor: helping companies achieve the utmost recognition through eye-opening visual communications.

Are you in?

"We're very excited about our new logo! It helps our clients visually grasp our operating modality and looks great in the process! It was an immediate and unanimous choice by the entire staff. Thank you Cognito."
